Dhia Qeej Competition
This competition is not about self-promotion or showing off. It’s about honoring and preserving Hmong heritage through the traditional and spiritual art of Dhia Qeej.
Dhia Qeej competitions have been practiced for generations, beginning in China, Laos, Vietnam, and Thailand, and continuing today in Hmong communities across the world. With the growth of the Hmong diaspora in places like the United States, many have made a conscious effort to keep this tradition alive and evolving.
The goal of this competition is to inspire younger generations to learn Qeej songs, understand their cultural and ritual meanings, and push the art to new levels.
Competitors will be judged on technical skill, rhythm, melody, and their ability to perform complex Qeej movements while maintaining control and balance. This not only showcases talent but reflects deep cultural discipline and respect for tradition.

Who can apply?
We welcome all ages to apply for our Qeej competition.
Registration Details:
- Registration is first-come, first-served
- Minimum of 5, maximum of 8 participants
- At least 5 competitors required for full prize payout
- Deadline: Friday, September 12, 2025, at 5:00 PM
- There is a non-refundable application fee of $50
Important Notes:
- The competition requires a minimum of 5 contestants for the full prize.
- Contestants will not be officially registered until the application fee is received. Be sure to submit your payment promptly to secure your spot in the competition.
Prizes:
First Place: $1,000 + Trophy
Second Place: $500
Third Place: $300
(Prizes are subject to adjustment if fewer than 5 contestants are registered.)
